Julian PARKER-BURNS

Julian PARKER-BURNS was born on May 14th, 1969. His first nine years were spent in Maine on a 25 acre farm where he lived during the school year, while summers were spent on Hurricane Island. After graduating from Falmouth High School (Massachusetts) in 1987, he attended a semester program at The Aegean Center for Fine Art on the Greek island of Paros.  Julian then enrolled at UMASS at Amherst for a BFA in Painting with one year spent overseas at the Exeter College of Art and Design in Devon, England. He graduated from UMASS in 1994 cum laude. Julian spent three summers at the Omega Institute where he studied with F. David Peat and Alex and Alyson Grey from 1993 to 1995.  In 1998, along with a core group of local artists, he started The Fridge – a collective/cooperative art gallery in Amherst, MA.  In the summer of 1999, he married and moved to Washington, D.C. to study Mandarin for one year.  With his wife and first child they moved to Taipei, Taiwan for two years. In 2009, back in the U.S., Mr. Parker-Burns was selected to join the Visiting Artist Program at the Torpedo Factory, in Alexandria, Virginia. The following year he was one of the few artists accepted as an Associate Member of the Torpedo Factory.  In 2012, Julian and his family moved to Kathmandu, Nepal where his new surroundings continue to inspire his creativity and materialize as innovative expressions in his art.

Julian PARKER-Burns est né le 14 mai 1969. Ces 9 premières années, il les a passées dans le Maine, dans une ferme d’une dizaine d’hectares. Il vivait  là durant l’année mais il passait ses  étés dans l’île de Hurricane. C’est en 1987 qu’il sort diplômé de Falmouth High School (Massachusetts). Il passe ensuite un semestre à suivre un programme  à l’Aegean Center of Fine Art à Paros, une île grecque. Après la Grèce, il rentre à l’université du Massachusetts, AMASS à Amherst pour un BFA ( Bachelor of Fine Art)en peinture avec un an passé à l’étranger à l’Exeter College of Art and Design dans le Devon, en Angleterre. Il sort diplômé de l’UMASS en 1994 avec les félicitations du Jury.
Julian passe alors 3 étés de suite à l’Omega Institute où il étudie avec F.David Peat et Alex et Alysson Grey de 1993 à 1995. En 1998 avec un groupe d’artistes locaux, il démarre le « Fridge » une sorte de Galerie  d’Art communautaire à Amherst, MA. A l’été 1999 il se marie et déménage à Washington DC pour étudier le mandarin pendant un an.
Avec sa femme et son premier enfant, il emménage à Taipei et reste à Taiwan pour 2 ans.
En 2009, Julian a été sélectionné pour  participer à un programme en tant ‘qu’artiste invité’, à la Torpedo Factory à Alexandria en Virginie. L’année suivante il est l’un des rares artistes à avoir été accepté comme membre associé à la Torpedo Factory.
En 2012 Julian et sa famille déménagent à Katmandou au Népal où il est ravi de ce nouvel environnement d’où il exprime ses émotions au travers de son art.
