Séra was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 1961. Upon completing with honors his graduate and postgraduate studies in art, and the science of art, at the Sorbonne University, he devoted himself both to teaching and to art.  An artist as protean as he is consistent, Séra's work finds expression in a multitude of fields: sculpture, drawing, painting, engraving, and graphic novels. Through the uniquely expressive language of graphic novels, Séra seeks to extend beyond a simple transmission of the historical record from one generation to the next by offering to Cambodian youth an opportunity to grasp their own history through artistic creation.

His work has been extensively exhibited both individually and collectively throughout France and Cambodia. In April 2012, the l’Institut Français in Phnom Penh marked its 20th anniversary with a spectacular exhibition dedicated to the vast painted work of Séra. A few months later in Paris, the Galerie Oblique presented over a hundred of his drawings, storyboards, and watercolors alongside large canvas paintings, some being exhibited for the first time. He has maintained a valued teaching position at the Sorbonne since 1989, and in 2012, was named Educational Director of the Phare Ponleu Selpak School in Battambang, Cambodia.

Séra est né à Phnom Penh, au Cambodge, en 1961. Après des études supérieures en arts plastiques et sciences de l’art à la Sorbonne, il développe en parallèle un parcours en enseignement et en art: peinture, sculpture, gravure, dessin, et romans graphiques. Depuis 1999 il dirige les Ateliers de la mémoire qui se sont tenus au Centre de ressources audiovisuelle Bophana, qui revisitent l’histoire douloureuse du Cambodge et impliquent des jeunes dans le travail de mémoire. Avec un langage facilement accessible, il cherche à aller au-delà de la transmission entre générations, pour donner aux jeunes une prise sur leur propre histoire à travers la création.

Ses œuvres ont fait l’objet de nombreuses expositions, en solo et collectives, en France et au Cambodge. En avril 2012 l’Institut français de Phnom Penh, pour marquer ses 20 ans, présente une spectaculaire exposition des œuvres de Séra, et quelques mois plus tard la Galerie Oblique à Paris présente une centaine de dessins, d’étapes graphiques, de planches, d’aquarelles, en regard avec de grandes toiles encore jamais exposées en France. Il est chargé de cours à la Sorbonne (Université de Paris 1) depuis 1989 à nos jours et il est   directeur pédagogique de l’école Phare Ponleu Selpak à Battambang, au Cambodge depuis 2012.
